Flooding remains an issue along the river, most significantly in the Village of Elmsford and Town of Greenburgh, according to the Army Corps of Engineers. Tropical Storm Floyd (September 1999) is the current flood of record, considered a 125-year recurrence interval. During this storm, the river overflowed its banks along much of its length, doing damage not only to the Elmsford-Greenburgh section but also to several other locations, including Chappaqua, Pleasantville, and the Nepera Park neighborhood of Yonkers.
