Manhattan College is continuing a water quality monitoring program for the Coalition with assistance from Saunders Trade and Technical High School in Yonkers. In twelve (12) sites samples are taken on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The monitoring began in June 2006 and continued through one full-year.

Objectives

The following are objectives of the study:

Objective 1: Continuously monitor the Saw Mill River for nutrients (ammonia, nitrate and total phosphorous) and fecal coliform bacteria.
Objective 2: Measure the spatial profile for sediment-bound metals along the entire saw Mill River.
Objective 3: Compile all historical data into a water and sediment quality database for the Saw Mill River.
